만우절 = April Fool's Day

교복데이 = School Uniform Day

So on 1st April, everyone celebrated this day, however they call it kyobokdayee, which stands for school uniform day. Technically, it's about the same as April Fool's Day because everyone's a university student, and they're wearing it as a prank. To me, I personally see it as more of a photo-taking day.

My class gathered at 3pm in front of the library to start taking photos together. Being one without a school uniform, I took the chance to take photos instead, since I've been letting my poor camera collect dust :( Had a ball of a time taking candid shots as well as group shots. One thing I can say about Koreans, is that they're always ready to be in more photos. We stood there for a good 50 minutes just doing random poses, random group shots and so on.

Apart from school uniforms, they also borrow varsity jackets from their friends from other universities.

There's this thing called the "FM"

Apparently it's adapted from something from their military.

It's basically a self introduction together with where you're from.

You are screaming all the lyrics out, and the people with you shout in reply.

It goes like this:

통일~ 연세! (오이)

최강 ~ 경영 (오이)

그중에서 제일 잘 나가는 환락 1반!! (환락환락환락)

그중에서 000은 맡고 있는 제 이름은 이(이) 종(종) 남(암)

In English it means:

Hello, hello, hello! (Oi)

United ~ Yonsei (Oi)

Well I'm not the best in translating and I kinda did it word for word. But understanding it is pretty interesting that something so serious from the army could be used in something fun as a self introduction.

It's really funny and interesting and on top of that, it has to be said really quickly and in tune.

If someone makes a mistake, there's a song everyone else sings that makes him/her redo!

It goes like this:

이번 판은 나가립니다~

다음 판을 기대하세요 (어이어이어이)

다음 판도 나가리면~

소주 한병 원샷입니다 (어이어이어이)

In English it means:

This version doesn't make it~

We'll wait for the next one (Oi Oi Oi)

If the next one doesn't make it too~

You will finish a bottle of Soju in one shot (Oi Oi Oi)

So anyway, if you could see in these shots and the one before the long text, two of my classmates did it and it was really funny. Usually they get someone to do it in the middle of drinking games, or gathering, and everyone stops what they're doing and screams along in reply.

I can say that in Singapore, you don't see a lot of men doing twist signs because it seems a little more feminine... But in Korea if you don't do it, you ain't as cool. (Hahahaha)
